The beautiful house offers 12 Boutique-rooms, each of them a symbiosis of moderne, exclusive comfort with special pieces of long gone times. The restaurant does not have a written menu, the delicious dishes depend on the season, our guests desire as well as the daily changing mood of your host and chef, making it clear: «we serve what we have».

 Gabrielle and Daniel Aschwanden are your hosts at the Boutique-hotel Schlussel – and they have been so for almost 23 years!
Gabrielles passion is all about wine – the exquisite wine list is her pride and she will always propose the best choice to go with your meal. Daniel does his magic in the kitchen. Enjoy his joyful and creative dishes and let yourself be spoiled in his down-to-earth manner.

Once upon a time…

The hosts met in a kitchen at the Hotel Belvédère in Hergiswil. Both were doing their apprenticeship. After finishing their training they worked at different restaurants and hotels to gain experience and know-how. Dani always knew that he wanted to be have his own place and be his own boss. While traveling through America they worked on a concept – not having a restaurant in sight. Becoming hosts of the Schlussel was pure luck – it was carneval time and the present tenants of the Schlussel told Dani they are looking for new tenants. Dani did not hesitate, he accepted even though many friends dissuaded him on his decision.  At that time the Schlussel had a call of a down to earth pub… expressing this in a diplomatic way!

When Gabrielle and Daniel took over the Schlussel, they first threw out the plastic floors and the orange curtains. After many years of passionate renovations the Schlussel has become a fourstarboutiquehotel on a fivestarlevel, which attracts locals, guests from Switzerland and from New York to Hong Kong in its easy-going ambience.
And still: In the cosy restaurant you can still feel the warmth of the original pub.
